Get After It!

Updated: Mar 31, 2020

Do you remember Flojo? Florence Griffith Joyner (the woman on the far right) was an award-winning track, and field athlete was affectionately known as FloJo. She loved running at the age of 7. Due to family circumstances, she was forced to give up the sport at nineteen to assist her family. So she went to work. However, her calling faithfully chased her and eventually caught her on a seemingly regular day at her job. She worked as a bank teller. Coach Bob Kersee discovered her and helped her enroll at U.C.L.A. And girlfriend got after it!

At the Olympic Games in Seoul, Griffith Joyner twice broke the Olympic record. He then won the final easily in a wind-aided 10.54. Four days later, in the semifinals, she broke the 9-year-old world record for 200m. Then, 100 minutes later, she set another world record in the final with a time of 21.34 seconds. Griffith Joyner's records for 100m and 200m have yet to be broken. What can we learn from FloJo? I can only imagine how she must have felt when she stopped running. She was so good! Yet, she made the tough choice. When the opportunity presented itself again, she literally ran for it. She followed her deferred dream. And became a champion before her untimely death at the age of 38. The cause of death was an epileptic seizure. Her life inspires me. During the quarantine, you can be like her and resume your dream as well. What do you really want to be? What mark do you want to leave on this world? Tap into your gifts now. Do some self-discovery. You can no longer say that you don't have the time. The rush has ended. What are you resting in, sis? Focus on what you can control, girl. Use what you have in your hands. And get after it! You got this, girl.

Here are a few ideas:

1. According to www.BusinessInsider.com, Yale University is offering the Science of Well-Being class for free. The course teaches you how to be happy and is self-paced. We all need some happiness right now. Don't miss this opportunity, girlfriend!

2. Relax those shoulders by getting some healthy stretching in! I have to shout out to the Journeys in Yoga team! All you gotta do is hop on zoom and get your downward dog on. I participated in the Open Flow class last week and girl, my back felt so good afterward! It's so worth it! Visit http://www.journeysinyoga.com/news/ for more information or email Suzanne directly at suzanne@journeysinyoga.com. Suzanne has made it possible to nurture people by providing this fantastic opportunity. Don't be shy. Reach out. Lastly, tell Suzanne I sent you.

3. Did you get the memo about Elderberry? Elderberry pumps your immune system with powerful antioxidants. Exactly what we all need right now. Many stores are completely out of every form of it. However, my beautiful friend, Becky, referred me to Tallahassee Kombucha. I emailed Michaela yesterday at Tallykombucha@gmail.com, and she has Elderberry in the syrup form! I got my jar. Get yours. Tell my new friend, Michaela, that I sent you.

When you look back at the 2020 pandemic, how do you want to remember yourself? Will you remember all the fear you felt? Or will you remember how you courageously made good use of the time and created something that you are proud of? Flojo ran after her dream. When she passed away, the world had witnessed her genius and gift of an award-winning track and field athlete. What would you do if you have all the time in the world? Nows your chance. What will you choose?

Much love,

Felicia
